Lobo was a Siberian Husky. He looked like a wolf, except that he was black and white. Siberian Husky's don't bark unless they forget themselves; they usually say things like, "roo-roo-roo" in a very friendly fashion. They make horrible guard dogs, but excellent watchdogs. If you ask them to guard something, they'll typically wander off in search of something interesting to watch.
Anyway, Lobo always believed that has head could overcome absolutely anything that he banged it against. Of course, occasionally, it wouldn't work out that way, and he'd end up with a headache.
On the other hand, he'd often do absolutely marvelous things (marvelous for a dog, anyway). For example, I didn't have a padlock to lock the gate on his yard, so I stuck a piece of 12 gauge aluminum wire through the padlock tab and wrapped it up securely so that he wouldn't get out. I had to do this because he had already figured out how to open the chain-link gate by lifting up the latch with his nose. It took two hours for him to do it, but he figured out how to unwrap the aluminum wire, pull it out of the hole, and open the gate.
Now, this didn't seem so marvelous to me at the time, since I had to chase him around the neighborhood to catch him, but it's a rule I learned to live with myself. If you're really want to accomplish something, even if you have to struggle mightily, keep trying. Either of two things will happen:
but you've learned a whole heck-of-a-lot about all sorts of things that will prove valuable later |
or |
You've learned a whole heck-of-a-lot, and you've attained your goal |
Either way, you'll gain more than you'll lose.
For an example, visit the Museum of the Twilight Fool. It took over forty years for the Fool to learn to paint and to compose music. What's to stop you from getting there faster?
