Painting: Evening Stroll
June, 1996: acrylic on paper; 24" x 30"

I like taking long hikes in the redwood covered mountains.  But sometimes, it does get a bit dark before I make it back.  Imagine yourself walking out in the woods, or in the country around evening.  As you step out of the forest, you find yourself face-to-face with something completely unexpected.  Now what?  Maybe it's time to turn around and go back!?

I actually used one of my sculptures for this painting.  They just looked so, well, so friendly.  This painting was done just before I took a class in oil painting, so I hadn't yet learned how to deal with color and value and underpainting.   On the other hand, it's kind of obvious where I was headed.
