Things often happen unexpectedly, catching you when you're unprepared.Ê Having people around willing to help can sometimes be the difference.Ê I always wanted to be the First Mate there with the axe, ready to jump in and help when necessary.Ê Yet, somehow, I've ended up being that poor fool caught by the squid.Ê Does that sound familiar?Ê I'll bet I'm not the only heroic wannabe in the world.
When I did this piece, I was thinking of some paintings by N. C. Wyeth.Ê I wanted to create something that reminded me of his work.Ê Having done it, I decided that I had failed.Ê But, after a year or so, I've changed my mind.Ê The painting says what it's supposed to say, and doesn't distract you with a lot of unnecessary detail.
